Hey I might need to sell off parts of my collection to help my parents. Essentially they are up a creek without a paddle!! (it floated away).
As you have probably seen in the news. The city of Cedar rapids and more revelant Palo was flooded. Palo was 100% flooded and is declared a Federal disaster area. My parents live in Palo and may have very well lost EVERYTHING!!!! We cannot even approach the town as the National guard has seized the entire town! No one in or out at this point! The idiot mayor decided this!!!!!!! The feds do what they are told.

At any rate my parents are living out of a suit case!! That is all they had time to really take.
I did not list pricing but if there is something you are interested in let me know. I can easily get pics and weights. To ease your mind There are only a couple of stubborn feeders!!

[General Discussion] Snapper laying eggs, no pics

Ok, now I hate people that eat turtles for sure.

Tonight coming back to my in-laws we drove by some guys looking at a snapper laying eggs. All well and good.

Not really!

I told them I wanted to collect the eggs because she was about a foot from the road digging her nest. I told them I was a rehabber and have done this many times before. They said that sounds interesting.

One catch, the old guy there who said he was going to take her and eat her!! The other guy was getting phone calls from his friends that had told him to call them if he seen turtles on the road because they wanted them. He told them that an old guy was taking her and that another guy (me) was taking the eggs.

About after 5 minutes of standing there the old guy picked her up and walked to his truck, stomped her head, and tossed her in the bed of the truck!! I guess he was tired of waiting. He wouldn't even let her lay her eggs.

Just one more reason to hate turtle eaters! I thought he was joking and if I knew he was serious I would have picked her up and ran. I guess too bad for me believing this guy was just joking around but hey, I live in Iowa, what else can I expect from these people! You devote a majority of your adult life to reptiles and most people around you don't give one thought to killing these animals. By the way, he also mentioned he loves to find timber rattlesnakes and eat them too!! These are protected in this county in Iowa.

So I have made a few trips to Clarke, Decatur, Lucas and Boone county over the past two weeks. The frogs have been calling like crazy, tons of American Toads, Chorus Frogs, N. Leopards, E. Gray Treefrog, and Cricket Frogs. Also seen loads of painted turtles and a few large snappers.

As far as snakes go, the usual fare with garters, a few fox, browns and one racer. Also found about a half dozen smallmouth salamanders.

And got pics of a bunch of sweet snakes.
This guy was at least 5 feet.
